U.P.G.A. Crowns Men’s Champion

The 2017 U.P.G.A Men’s Championship was hosted by Wawonowin Country Club on August 9-12. The field consisted of 102 golfers representing 18 member clubs. The first two rounds were qualifying and separated the field into nine flights. The final two rounds consisted of flight play with all 72 holes counting for the stoke-play tournament.
Gunner Stein representing Portage Lake Golf Club won the Championship flight in a sudden death playoff over L’Anse’s John Koskinen. Both players finished regulation play with outstanding scores of 284.
Robert Luke from Marquette Golf Club won the First Flight while Riley Thomson of Iron River was the Second Flight champion. The Third Flight champion was Eric Rivord from Wawonowin; Jimmer Koskinen from L’Anse was the Fourth Flight winner; Paul Bujold representing Pine Grove won the Fifth Flight; Mitch Francois from Riverside Golf Club was the Sixth Flight champion; Dave Niemi from Omer’s Golf Course was the Seventh Flight Champion and Glenn Rankinen representing Riverside Golf Club was crowned the Eight Flight champion.
Oak Crest Golf Club is scheduled to host the 2018 Championship.
